Working with Keys Group Senior Managers

A full day of race awareness training was delivered to 13 senior managers from the Keys Group in Cyncoed, Cardiff in late November. The Keys Group provides care for young people placed within their residential homes across the UK. We were approached by the company who are committed to anti-racism and wanted to be proactive and not reactive and are now looking to roll out the training further in 2022.
We discussed what is it like to feel different whilst taking into account and encouraging the staff to consider the children within their care having little or no choice about where they live and possibly standing out for a number of reasons.
The training included conversations about Transracial placements and what can be done to recognise and respond appropriately with greater knowledge to a child placed within a setting who has a different skin colour, religion nationality or culture to the other members.
This delivery was particularly interesting as the participants were able to reflect and discuss their opinions views personal and professional experiences during the breaks and lunch.
This in turn created more discussion on return but also showing the ability to critically think and then attempt to gain a greater understanding.
‘I wanted to specifically thank you for how Sunil and Sean presented the day. Your ability to manage the audience created such a safe environment I believe everyone left the room with positive ambitions for the future’
